About our Club

Looking for a vibrant, welcoming community? Founded in 1986, the Mississippi Squares has grown into one of EOSARDA's largest square dance clubs. We are passionate about keeping the tradition of modern square dancing alive with our caller, Brian Crawford. If you are new to dancing, Tuesday nights are designed just for you! Our unique format alternates Basic and Mainstream tips, seamlessly blending new dancers into the group from day one. If you already know the ropes, join us on Friday nights for weekly Plus dancing.

We gather at the (New) Brunton Community Hall on the 9th Line (just 4.7 km south of town off Hwy 15). Come out and see why our members love it here!

Our Caller

Meet Our Caller: Brian Crawford

Brian has been the guiding voice of the Mississippi Squares since 1999, but his journey with the club began long before he took the microphone. He and his wife, Amy, first joined the club as dancers in 1991, learning under Graham Ingram. Deeply invested in the community, they served on the executive board for three years—one year as secretary couple and two years as directors—and regularly stepped up as "angels" to partner with single dancers.

Brian’s calling career began in 1997 with an introductory course led by John Charman, alongside mentorship from the club’s then-caller, Mel Wilkerson. In 1998, Brian co-founded the Town and Kountry Kickers in Stittsville with fellow caller Geoff Clarke. When Geoff took over that club full-time the following year, Brian stepped in as the full-time caller for the Mississippi Squares.

Over the last two decades, Brian has shared his talents across the region, calling for the Dynamite Tays (Perth), Bytown Squares and Shadowcasters (Ottawa), and the Swinging Saints (Brockville), as well as clubs across Ontario, Quebec, and the United States.

Committed to dancer development, Brian leads the popular spring workshops hosted by the Mississippi Squares, helping regional dancers sharpen their skills. While he and Amy love dancing up to the A2 level, they bring that same enthusiasm to every level on the floor. While Brian is at the mic, Amy continues to support the club by serving as an angel.
